About us

Network Movement for Youth and Children's Welfare (NMYCW-SL) is a local organization founded by district and community youth leaders from four regions during a national conference at the Kenema District Youth Council in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone. Registered as a Youth Serving Agency and community-based organization in June 2004, we operate as a civil society organization advocating for child welfare, women's rights, peace building, non-violence, environmental protection and youth empowerment at community and national levels.

Our Vision: To eliminate all forms of abuse against women, children and youth, and to improve land management and protect the environment.
Our Mission: To create safe and empowered communities by ending abuse against women, children and youth through prevention, response services and rights-based advocacy, while supporting sustainable land management and improved productivity.
Our Values: Transparency and Accountability, Dedication and Commitment, Solidarity with the Poor, and Respect for all Humanity.

                Focus Areas:

  • Education: Engaging schools to empower Community Teacher Associations (CTAs), School Management Committees (SMCs), and promoting non-violence through outdoor activities, as well as the use of libraries and TecVoc (IEC training).

  •  

  • Land & Environment: Promoting the protection of wetlands, addressing climate change, tree planting, and environmental protection. (With Support from GGF we established GAME 4 Climate Change

  •  

  • Women and Child Rights Campaign: Collaborating with the Ministry and Family Support Units (FSU) to support children affected by the law, organizing campaigns during World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and the 19 Days of Activism (November 1-19) and the 16 Days of Activism (November 24-December 10).

  • Health and Substance Abuse: Focused on water and sanitation, monitoring public health units (PHUs) and community health centers (CHCs), conducting drugs and alcohol awareness campaigns, and collaborating with District Health Management Teams (DHMTs) and Facility Management Committees (FMCs) on district health campaigns. Community Free from Alcohol campaign

  • Networking and Partnership: Promoting accountability in governance, advocating for Public Financial Management (PFM) through bilateral budget discussions at the national / district level, and pushing for fair tax campaign for women and youth to benefits from tax collected and community oversight drives for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). 

NMYCW - SL Coordinating Team Members:

The Coordinator, Mr Hajie Bah - a well-seasoned Civil Society Activist with over 25years of experience in Advocacy, Lobby, and Community mobilization and development work, has headed and coordinated several coalitions and networks in Sierra Leone.

Advisory Board Members:

Mr. Mohamed Konneh, Chair of the Advisory Board, is a highly experienced media professional in Sierra Leone and a current member of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ). He has extensive experience in media and community development. He is passionate about the well-being of women and children.

Haja Mayeni Bangura - Board Member, Signatory to the organization's account, member of the Accountability Committee. She is passionate about Slum Dwellers, Education, and women's empowerment.

Mammy Mariama Cole - Board Member, a retired Head Teacher, a former Executive Member of SLTU,  passionate about Girl Child Education.
